Atlanta, Georgia

We visited my best friend and her fiancé in Atlanta, GA last year and it was one of our favorite trips! I'm so excited to go back for their wedding in April! It's been a couple of months but I'm finally getting around to writing about some of the best spots we got to explore. If you plan on visiting Atlanta soon you should definitely keep reading.

Chateau Meichtry Family
 Vineyard and Winery

This was our favorite day! Our friends took us to a vineyard in Talking Rock, which is about an hour and a half drive from Atlanta. The scenery at Chateau Meichtry is breathtaking. We did some wine tasting (something I had never done before) and us girls ended up getting tipsy on mango wine slushies (SO GOOD). The boys went for something a little more sophisticated. The wine was delicious and the views of mountains in the distance was even better. It was the perfect day. What could make this perfect day better? The answer to that is a baby goat. Someone brought their baby goat into the winery that day and allowed all of us to pet him and take pictures. It was the cutest moment of my entire life! You probably won't see a baby goat on your visit but it's still worth the drive. The family who owns and operates the vineyard is so welcoming which makes the experience so much better. It's one of those places you have to go to if you're in the area.

Stone Mountain

Duncan made me get on the skyride to go up Stone Mountain which scared the s*** out of me but ended up being worth it. A lot of people like to hike up the mountain but it's way too hot in the summer for that. Also, who exercises on vacation? So we took the luxurious route and got to see this carving on the side of the mountain, which many people want to remove. The carving depicts three confederate war leaders and many people believe it celebrates racism and division. To read more about this look up 'Confederate Memorial Carving'. Aside from that, it's a pretty cool place to visit in Georgia. It is the largest exposed piece of granite in the world and the view from up there is pretty impressive.

Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel

I guess we like cool views? This one is from the 72nd floor of the Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel. It's a beautiful hotel in the heart of Downtown Atlanta. We didn't stay here but for $8 you can go all the way up to the Sun Dial Restaurant, Bar & View and see Atlanta from a different angle. At 723 feet, it's the tallest hotel in the Southeast. To go up you have to get into a glass elevator which gave me major Willy Wonka vibes minus the whole breaking through a glass ceiling and flying part. We didn't try the restaurant or bar but we will be doing so next time we visit.

Ponce City Market

It was a rainy day in Atlanta so we decided to do something indoors. The Ponce City Market houses a ton of restaurants and shops. It's a great place to stroll through when you want to kill some time. We ate at Minero which is a Mexican restaurant (our favorite) and had some tacos and beer. We loved walking through one of the shops called Citizen Supply which their website describes as a "new concept for local and international makers to showcase artisan goods". It has different sections of leather goods, plants and clothes with some artists making their products on the spot for us to watch. This market is perfect if you're looking for unique places to eat and shop.

Cabbagetown Street Art Murals

The thing we loved most about Atlanta was how artsy it was. There is an entire strip of unique murals in Cabbagetown. It's perfect for those cool Instagram shots. The artists put so much time in their work and it's amazing how it's all just displayed outdoors for us to enjoy. We walked through Krog Street Tunnel which is also really cool. It's a tunnel full of graffiti that's always changing. I love that every time I go there's something new to see. It's one of those things you don't want to miss if you go to Atlanta.

Georgia Aquarium

This is definitely one of the most impressive aquariums I've been to. It has so many sea animals that I've never seen in person before. This whale shark is the largest fish in the sea! The biggest one was measured at 61 feet!!! All 5 feet and 4 inches of me wouldn't stand a chance but there's something majestic about watching them swim around. We also got to see the dolphin and sea otter shows which were both equally cute. Tickets are about $35 per person but worth every penny.
Like I said, we'll be going back in April so hopefully we can add more to the list! Duncan and I loved Atlanta so much we even talked about moving here. It's such a cool city with so much to do and surrounded by beautiful landscaping. Let us know about some of the spots you like to visit while you're there!
