Our obsession with Mexican food is real. It's our go-to for every date night because we know it won't let us down. Over the years, we have accumulated a handful of favorites from our constant trips to satisfy our taco cravings. We've compiled a list for you guys to make it easier the next time you decide on Mexican food for dinner.
Hunger Street Tacos
I always want tacos. Every time Duncan asks me where I want to eat I just say tacos. That's all I ever want. My constant hunger for tacos lead us here to Hunger Street Tacos. I can't rave enough about this place.
We started with the Esquites which is basically a Mexican street corn in a bowl. It was so creamy and had the perfect amount of spice. I never go to a Mexican restaurant without ordering the chips & guac so of course we got that next and surprisingly the guacamole wasn't the star of the dish. The tortilla chips they serve with it were the best chips we've ever had. They're made fresh and have a crispiness and thickness to them that I've never experienced before. It has such a unique flavor and compliments the guacamole so well. Now, let's get to the good part — the tacos. We had the Chori-Pollo and the Suadero. The Suadero blew our minds. It's seared brisket, onion, cilantro and an avocado-tomatillo sauce served on a soft corn tortilla. Thinking about it makes my mouth water.
Let's not forget to mention the art pieces drawn right on the building. The murals are by the Lapiztola art collective and highlight Mexico's social and political issues. I love this spot and we highly recommend it if you're into good, traditional food with a twist.
We LOVE this place. I'm pretty sure they recognize us here by now because we come so often. The number one thing you must try when you come here is the guacamole. They have really mastered the perfect combination of avocados, onions, tomatoes, chile serrano, lime and cilantro to create this heavenly starter dish.
We come for the guac but stay for the tacos. We've tried pretty much all of their tacos but we always end up ordering the carne asada one. It's so simple yet flavorful and the tortilla is so soft and fresh. That's actually the perfect word to describe this restaurant — fresh. The food tastes so authentic to its Mexican theme. The ingredients are real and each dish is crafted with so much passion and love. Don't forget to also get the tamale! We get the pork one and enjoy every single bite.
This restaurant can do no wrong and it's always our go-to taco spot when we want something quick and tasty.
We have been eyeing this place for a while on Instagram and finally got around to going. Their dishes looked so creative and tasty that we had to cross it off our foodie bucket list. We can now say without a doubt that their food is more than just Instagram-worthy.
We went during their happy hour which is everyday from 3-7pm. We shared a bunch of appetizers and ordered drinks. Everything was so flavorful. Our favorite dish was the empanadas. Both of us are Hispanic so it's a pretty common dish in our culture, but these were anything but ordinary. The soft dough, perfectly seasoned beef, and light cream drizzled on top made this an empanada from heaven. We also loved the Yuca con Carnitas, a perfect dish of crispy yuca topped with pork and fresh vegetables.
Now, the most important part of a meal which is always the dessert. I fought for the churros because they're my favorite but Duncan won and we got the Guera Cake. I wasn't even mad about it because it was so delicious. It has layers of flan and tres leches on top of a pool of creamy, sweet milk topped off with pecan crumbles. If you come here just for this dessert it will be worth it, trust me.
Agave Azul Cocina Mexicana
Instagram also led us to this Mexican spot. We saw those taco shot glasses and had to try them for ourselves.
Let's talk about the big frozen margarita I'm holding in the first pic. I got the watermelon flavor and it was so refreshing. The taste of tequila wasn't too strong, which I love. They have so many flavors, I'll just have to keep coming back to try them all.
Whenever we go to a new restaurant, Duncan and I like to get a bunch of small dishes so we can try a little bit of everything. We got normal tacos and shot glass tacos. The meat in both of these are so flavorful without being too salty. That cream at the bottom of the shot class is so good you can probably drink it by itself.
This restaurant has a great mix of authentic Mexican food with modern elements. It has a unique take on traditional dishes that will leave your taste buds satisfied.
We have been following this place since we tried it at the Orlando Farmer's Market. We're so happy they finally have a permanent spot in the Hourglass District.
This place has hands down the best tamales we've had so far. The first bite of them will have you wanting more. We usually get the pork and chicken and there's so much flavor to them both. The "corn masa" itself is so soft and topped with the right amount of sauce and creams.
This spot is also in the perfect location. The Hourglass District seems to be growing with new shops and restaurants popping up every few months. Tamale Co. shares a building with Foxtail, Leguminati, Le Ky Patisserie, and other shops so you can get a little of everything in one trip.
Like I stated before, we love Mexican food. We know a lot of people do too so we hope you can enjoy some of our favorites from this list. Don't forget to tag us and follow us on Instagram so we can see where you're roaming to!
