A Travel & Local Blog
We've been to a couple of places recently that we would love to share with you guys. These are some local spots here in Orlando that are unique to the city and offer quality products. We can't get enough of these places which is why they've become our favorite go-to's.
A La Cart
I heard about this place opening up a couple of weeks ago and I thought the concept was pretty cool so I told Duncan we had to go. There's a bar inside selling craft beers and an outside area with a lawn surrounded by food trucks. These mobile vendors sell street food. We tried Steak It Easy and loved the combination of the steak with a salad. We also got the empanadas at Adão and the chicken one was our favorite. We opted for the beer flight so that we can get a taste of everything. I loved the Caribé which is a blood orange cider. It's such a chill spot to go to on a sunny day. There’s really nothing like it in Orlando which I appreciate. It was inspired by food truck parks in Oregon (where the owners are from). They host events like Movie Monday on the lawn and Trivia Tuesdays. A La Cart brings something new to this city and encourages a sense of community. I recommend going with friends to just socialize, eat some good food and have some local drinks.
Hunger Street Tacos
I always want tacos. Every time Duncan asks me where I want to eat I just say tacos. That's all I ever want. My constant hunger for tacos lead us here to Hunger Street Tacos. I can't rave enough about this place. We started with the Esquites which is basically a Mexican street corn in a bowl. It was so creamy and had the perfect amount of spice. I never go to a Mexican restaurant without ordering the chips & guac so of course we got that next and surprisingly the guacamole wasn't the star of the dish. The tortilla chips they serve with it were the best chips we've ever had. They're made fresh and have a crispiness and thickness to them that I've never experienced before. It has such a unique flavor and compliments the guacamole so well. Now, let's get to the good part — the tacos. We had the Chori-Pollo and the Suadero. The Suadero blew our minds. It's seared brisket, onion, cilantro and an avocado-tomatillo sauce served on a soft corn tortilla. Thinking about it makes my mouth water. Let's not forget to mention the art pieces drawn right on the building. The murals are by the Lapiztola art collective and highlight Mexico's social and political issues. I love this spot and we highly recommend it if you're into good, traditional food with a twist.
We LOVE this place. I'm pretty sure they recognize us here by now because we come so often. The number one thing you must try when you come here is the guacamole. They have really mastered the perfect combination of avocados, onions, tomatoes, chile serrano, lime and cilantro to create this heavenly starter dish. We come for the guac but stay for the tacos. We've tried pretty much all of their tacos but we always end up ordering the carne asada one. It's so simple yet flavorful and the tortilla is so soft and fresh. That's actually the perfect word to describe this restaurant — fresh. The food tastes so authentic to its Mexican theme. The ingredients are real and each dish is crafted with so much passion and love. Don't forget to also get the tamale! We get the pork one and enjoy every single bite. This restaurant can do no wrong and it's always our go-to taco spot when we want something quick and tasty.
Right after you stuff your face with delicious tacos head on over to the bar right next door. This is our favorite bar hands down. Not only are the drinks amazing but the ambiance is completely our style. It's has a vintage but classy look to it. The dim lighting and candle lit tables give off a very relaxing vibe. The simplicity of the menus make it easy to order. Watching the bar tenders make the drinks is like watching an artist. They're all so perfectly crafted by people who love what they do. Drinks like the Paloma which includes tequila, lime salt and grapefruit soda, are so refreshing. It's the perfect place to go to drink when you want to wind down after a hectic work week.
The uniqueness of A La Cart and tastiness of the taco spots will not disappoint. We visit these places so frequently that we just had to share them with you guys. I hope you all enjoy them as much as we do.
